Carlos Granda is an Emmy Award-winning journalist currently serving as a general assignment reporter for ABC7 Eyewitness News in Los Angeles. He joined the station in April 1998 and is known for his investigative segment, “What’s Bugging You?” where he addresses viewer concerns and consumer issues. (top-bios.com)
Born on April 18, 1961, in Tampa, Florida, Granda developed an early interest in journalism, inspired by watching Walter Cronkite. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications and Broadcast Journalism from the University of South Florida in 1984. (Prabook)
Granda began his broadcasting career at WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Florida, as an associate producer before becoming a full-time reporter. He then moved to WLTV in Miami as a fill-in anchor and reporter, covering major events such as Queen Elizabeth’s visit to the Bahamas and the Statue of Liberty Centennial in New York. (Fact Profiles)
In 1987, he joined WPLG-TV in Miami, reporting on Central American issues, including the overthrow of General Manuel Noriega in Panama and stories from the Guantanamo Naval Base in Cuba. In 1990, Granda moved to New York to work for WABC-TV as a fill-in anchor for Eyewitness News This Morning. He was the first reporter on the air during the World Trade Center bombing. He also covered Hurricane Andrew as it hit Miami and New Orleans.
In 1993, he joined WNBC in New York as its New Jersey correspondent. Two years later, he returned to Miami to become an anchor at WFOR-TV, the CBS affiliate. Throughout his career, Granda has covered significant events, including the 2000 Democratic and Republican National Conventions, Election Day in Austin, Texas, and the deportation of Elian Gonzalez.
Granda has received multiple accolades for his journalism, including five Emmy Awards. One of his Emmys was awarded for his series on the homeless titled “My Home is the Street.”
