Jess Marlow (December 20, 1929 – August 3, 2014)
Marlow spent most of his broadcasting career in Southern California, primarily with KNBC (Channel 4) and later KCET, the PBS station in L.A.
He was the face of KNBC’s evening news during the 1970s and 1980s, often working with Kelly Lange.
Known for his serious, no-nonsense style, Marlow also did in-depth reporting, often tackling political and social issues.
In the 1990s, he joined KCET.
Marlow earned multiple Emmy Awards and Golden Mike Awards for excellence in journalism.
He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to television news.
Born in Salem, Illinois, Marlow began in radio before going on to television.
He was known for his deep voice, which became familiar to LA TV News viewers across Southern California.
Marlow died in 2014 at age 84 after complications from Parkinson’s disease.
