Lu Parker

Lu Parker (born Frances Louise Parker on April 16, 1968) is an American journalist, motivational speaker, animal rights advocate, and former beauty queen. She gained national recognition after being crowned Miss USA 1994, representing South Carolina, and subsequently placing in the Top 6 at the Miss Universe pageant that same year.

Parker began her broadcasting career at WCSC-TV in Charleston, South Carolina, as an education reporter and fill-in anchor. She later moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she served as a weekend anchor and reporter for KABB-TV and was promoted to main anchor in 2000. In 2003, she hosted “Great Day SA” at KENS 5, San Antonio’s top-rated live entertainment morning show.

In January 2005, Parker joined KTLA 5 News in Los Angeles, where she has held various anchoring roles. As of 2015, she anchors the 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. newscasts. Throughout her journalism career, she has earned multiple Emmy Awards and Genesis Awards for her reporting.

In 2010, Parker founded the Lu Parker Project, a non-profit organization aimed at improving the lives of at-risk youth and homeless animals through direct service, education, and advocacy. She is also the founder of Be Kind & Co., a lifestyle brand promoting kindness and compassion.

Parker earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the College of Charleston, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She later obtained a Master of Arts in Education from The Citadel. Before entering the field of journalism, she taught English literature at North Charleston and Middleton High Schools in South Carolina.

  • Parker has made appearances on programs such as “Larry King Live” and E! Entertainment Television, often portraying a news anchor in films and television shows.

  • She authored a book on pageantry titled Catching the Crown: The Source for Pageant Competition.

  • In 2016, she co-created an inspirational web show titled The Path with Lu Parker in partnership with Maria Shriver and KTLA.
