Roy Firestone

Roy Firestone (born December 8, 1953, in Miami Beach, Florida) is a sports journalist. He hosted ESPN’s Up Close (originally SportsLook) from 1980 to 1994.

Firestone began as a sports anchor in Miami before moving to Los Angeles to work at KCBS-TV from 1977 to 1985.

He gained national prominence as the host of Up Close, earning seven Emmy Awards and seven CableACE Awards for his work.

Beyond ESPN, Firestone hosted Face to Face with Roy Firestone. He also appeared in films and TV shows, including Jerry Maguire, Married… with Children, and The Simpsons.

Firestone is married to Midori, and they have two sons. A lifelong Baltimore Orioles fan, he served as a spring training batboy for the team during his youth.

Firestone is an active keynote speaker and performer; his one-man show combines storytelling, humor, and music.
