Tara Finestone

Tara Finestone is an experienced television news executive and journalist with a career spanning over two decades in both local and national newsrooms. She is recognized for her leadership roles in major media markets, particularly in Los Angeles and Seattle.

Finestone began her journalism career in the Pacific Northwest, working as a producer at television stations in Seattle, Salt Lake City, and Spokane. She holds a B.A. in Communication and Media Studies from the University of Washington. (TVNewsCheck, FTVLive)

In 2003, she moved to Southern California, where she spent nine years in various roles with NBC News and KNBC Los Angeles.

Finestone served as a supervising producer at Current TV and later as an executive producer at KTLA in Los Angeles, where she managed afternoon newscasts and contributed to digital platform development.

In July 2016, Finestone joined KCBS/KCAL as Assistant News Director and was promoted to News Director in January 2018. During her tenure, she led the newsroom through significant events, including Southern California wildfires, and was noted for her expertise in integrating digital platforms with traditional broadcasts.

After departing KCBS/KCAL in 2020, Finestone became the News Director at KIRO 7 in Seattle. She served in this role until early 2023.

As of 2025, Finestone is the founder of her own strategic communications consultancy, leveraging her extensive experience in journalism and media strategy.
